Tori is a stool made of sand cast aluminum using the lost mold method. The frontal profile of the piece is cut on several low-density expanded polystyrene plates, which are then stacked and glued together, resulting in a full-scale mold of the piece. Finally, the mold is buried in a compressed mixture of sand, soil, and binder, and the molten aluminum is poured at a temperature of 700°C. This action causes the expanded polystyrene to be dissolved by the molten aluminum and occupy the volume where it was buried. Once the aluminum solidifies, the final piece is unearthed, revealing the texture of the lost mold on its surface. Due to its formal nature, by modifying the dimensions along any of the three axes, the piece can be transformed into another typology. Lengthening it widthwise turns it into a long bench; lengthening it widthwise and heightwise transforms it into a console, and lengthening it widthwise and lengthwise turns it into a coffee table.
